Detection Services Assisting Orange City Council Reduce Leakage

Director of Detection Services Stephen Simmons with Utility Works Coordinator John Marshall on site sounding a part of the Councils reticulation network for leaks. Stephen is using a Fuji FSB-8D digital listening stick, this is probably the most sensitive device of its type available for detecting leakage noise in water systems. It uses a solid state accelerometer to convert sound pressure waves into audible output via headphones. The gain output remains crystal clear with little to no distortion over the whole output range.

Detection Services is very pleased to be assisting Orange City Council in this leakage reduction initiative. The leakage survey we are undertaking for Orange City Council employs a whole range of advanced electronic equipment from the FSB-8D listening stick through to sophisticated noise cancelling ground microphones.

Once a leak is detected the location of the leak is accurately fixed using the latest digital noise correlators. These instuments are so sensitive that we have successfully used them to pinpoint the exact location of leaks on pipework up to distances well in excess of one thousand metres.
